an insider's view of
Veneto & Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy
With pick-up in Milan, drop off in Venice, and small daily travels in between, this tour is based out of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, where you will be enjoying your stay of 3 nights in a charming hotel in Lake Garda and 3 nights in a beautiful farmhouse in Friuli.
Northern Italy is very diverse and a special part of Italy. With views of Lake Garda, the Dolomite mountains, the hills of the Italian-Slovenian border and the Adriatic Sea, the natural beauty of this area is exceptional. Here we see quaint lakeside villages, Roman villas, the charming sea facing Trieste, and the architecture of Palladio. The food and wine is amazing and is a real treat for wine lovers with no shortage of small production, indigenous varietals to try.
This tour is collaborated with our good friend and wine importer, Paul Turina, who has planned everything to do with wine on this journey through Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Paul is an American who spends half the year in Umbria and has family in Veneto. We are fortunate to know him. He specifically looks for small and unique wine producers in Italy and imports a small quantity of wine into the United States each year. Production from his producers is extraordinarily limited.
Some of the highlights (other than wine tasting) of this wine tour include:
The beautiful view from your lakeside hotel on Lake Garda.
A boat ride to explore the peninsula of Sirmione, its shops and the nearby 2,000 plus year old Roman villa.
A farmhouse stay on the Italian-Slovenian border.
A visit to the massive Palladian villa now owned by the Five sisters, Villa Angarano.
A day trip over the beautiful Slovenian border for lunch and Slovenian wine tasting.
A visit to the beautiful and multi-cultural city of Trieste.
And of course, enjoying traditional Italian foods at some of our favorite restaurants from our extensive time in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.
