an insider's view of
Douro & Porto, Portugal
Three days in Porto and three days in Douro with daily travels, local cuisine and, of course, tons of wine tasting.
Porto is a feast for the senses; old Europe at its finest. A mere mile from the Atlantic Ocean, it is an incredibly beautiful place with steep banks rising from the Douro River.
The Portuguese love to eat traditional foods; lots of meat and lots of fish, all simply prepared using the highest quality ingredients. Couple that with some of the best red wine you may drink this year and you're in sensory overload. We will also be tasting some incredible and unique white wines, and of course, Port. If you don't drink Port on a regular basis, you will learn quite a bit and may end up with a bit of a Port habit after the trip. If you're already a Port lover, prepare yourself for the gift of some highly sough-after vintages and colheitas.
Some of the highlights (other than wine tasting) of this wine tour include:
A walk around the historical center of Porto, stopping on the way to experience Francesinha, a traditional sandwich of Porto.
A visit to the birthplace of Portugal, Guimarães.
A stay in a Quinta right on the Douro River.
A visit to the cute town of Lamego.
And of course, enjoying traditional Portuguese foods at some of our favorite restaurants from our extensive time in Douro and Porto.
