Slovenia is a special place. Natural beauty, nice people who all seem to speak English, plus a food and wine scene that should be on the world map. Influences from all around,

from Italy to Central Europe.

For our first 3 nights, we will be based in the city of Trieste along the Adriatic Sea. With perhaps the best coffee culture in Italy, we will spend our days exploring the region along the Slovenian and Italian coast. You will be wowed by the natural beauty, the incredible food and some of the most interesting wines you can drink today. You will see they call this part of Slovenia “Little Tuscany” for a reason.

We then make our way to the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, for our next 3 nights. One of the more charming small European capitals, we will eat and drink like kings for our next 3 days together.

Cost per person: $3,950 (based on double occupancy)

Single travelers more than welcome. If you prefer a single room, additional charge is $700.

Pick up and drop off in Venice.

Limited to 20 participants.

Arriving Early or Extending Your Stay

We think Venice is best explored on your own or in very small groups. We are happy to assist with hotel recommendations and things to see and do.

Our meeting point will be at the Venice airport. We will provide water taxis from Venice (the Rialto bridge or San Marco) to our meeting location at the airport.

At the end of the tour, we will drop you off at the Venice airport. From there you can easily take a water taxi into Venice, fly out of Venice airport, or take a train to another destination.

Important: If flying out that day from Venice, please book your flight for no earlier than 2:00 PM.

Current Itinerary

Day 1 - Monday: Heading to Slovenia’s “Little Tuscany”

We will provide water taxis to the bus pick up at the Venice airport. Water taxis can either pick you up at San Marco or the Rialto Bridge. Please plan to arrive in Venice at least the night before the tour.

Wine focus – Wow! The Schioppettino from Prepotto is amazing. Grab a few bottles or

cases and see how this wonderful wine ages.

Food focus – We will have lunch in the postcard perfect village of Smartno.

Culture – We will show you Slovenia’s “Little Tuscany” and discover how the changing

border has affected this area over time.

We will eventually make our way to the city of Trieste, which will serve as our base for the

next three nights.

Day 2 - Tuesday: Trieste, Austria Hungary along the Adriatic

Culture – Trieste is Italian, right? With probably the best café culture in all of Italy, a true

crossroads town right on the Adriatic.

Wine focus – Parovel is a small winery in the Karst, with Slovenia just beyond the hills.

Refosco is a great grape to add to your repertoire.

Food focus – We will have lunch together in Trieste

Day 3 - Wednesday: Mediterranean Slovenia

Culture – We are going to visit the picture-perfect Castle of Stanjel in Slovenia today.

Wine & Food focus – We will have lunch together near the castle with a mother, daughter

team and then make our way to a wine tasting where you will receive a proper introduction to Slovenian wine.

Day 4 - Thursday: Heading to Ljubljana, but first, more natural beauty

We head inland today, and you will quickly see the snowcapped mountains in the

distance.

Culture – On our way to Ljubljana we will stop to see the caves at Skocjan. Straight out of

an Indiana Jones film, these caves are famous in this part of the world for a reason.

Arrival – We will arrive at our hotel in the center of Ljubljana where you can wander on your own in the evening.

Day 5 - Friday: Ljubiana, A Slovenian secret

We will do a walking tour of the capital in the morning before making our way to lunch at

a restaurant where I had one of my better meals in the entire country.

Wine focus – This evening, we will have an easy, informal get together trying some of the other Slovenian wine regions more inland at a local wine bar, a short walk from the hotel.

Day 6 - Saturday: Alpine Beauty

A little culture – We will head toward the Austrian border before stopping at Lake Bled.

Food focus – We are going to have an exceptional lunch near Lake Bled in a tiny town that I found out about from a Slovenian friend.

Day 7 - Sunday: Buon Viaggio

This morning, we head to the magical city of Venice where you can continue your journey.
