Based in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy, Petrussa is one of Italy’s best and most under the radar estates. In 1995, Hilde Petrussa took over for her mother as the head winemaker of the estate. She began to focus on indigenous grapes and making high quality wines with them. She has earned a name for herself doing so.
Tasting Notes:
Schioppettino is a dark skinned grape variety that is native to Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This wine pours an intense ruby red and gives off aromas of minerals, small red fruits, sweet spices and dried flowers. The palate is intense and full bodied with fine tannins. This wine is fresh and savory.
Pair it With:
This wine can be paired against all types of food, Italian food in particular. Think gamey meat stews with peppers or green herbed roasted chickens.
