Based in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy, Petrussa is one of Italy’s best and most under the radar estates. In 1995, Hilde Petrussa took over for her mother as the head winemaker of the estate. She began to focus on indigenous grapes and making high quality wines with them. She has earned a name for herself doing so.
Tasting Notes:
This passito dessert wine made from Verduzzo grapes is an elegant after dinner wine. The grapes are harvested by hand, and a portion with develop botrytis (noble rot), which intensifies the wine’s flavors. The wine has a beautiful honeyed sweetness with hints of dried fruit. The sweetness is well balanced by the prominent tannin that is so characteristic of the Verduzzo varietal.
Pair it With:
Delicious with biscottis, pastries and nutty desserts. Try it with baklava and nut roll.
