Quinta do Quetzal Reserva Red 2015

Vidigueira, Alentejo, Portugal

Quinta do Quetzal is set in the heart of the Alentejo region on the rich slopes of Vidigueira, close to the oldest known Roman winery in Portugal and Spain. The grapes grow on soil rich in Schist, the local mineral stone. While the area around Quinta do Quetzal is generally sunny and warm, its positioning on the foothills of the Serra do Mendro allows cooler air in from the Atlantic ocean. These conditions lead to big variations in temperature, giving the grapes the heat to ripen and the cooling breezes to recover.

Tasting Notes:

This is a fortified (dessert/sweet) wine stylistically similar to ruby port with remarkable flavors of ripe red and black berries, plums and dates. It has great concentration and depth. It delivers lip smacking sweetness and subtle soft tannin.

Pair it with:

Given its fresh nature, berry flavors, rich texture and sweeter style, it goes beautifully with classic desserts like cherry pie and chocolate ganache truffles, as well as more modern takes like bourbon chocolate chip pie. Pair it with some stinky bleu cheese for an incredible balance of sweet and savory notes.

100% Alicante Bouschet

Aging:

16 months in new oak barrels

Slate

Rui Reguinga and José Portela
